Case News

Our Case

On Christmas Eve of 2018, a catastrophic fire knocked out the pollution controls at U.S. Steel’s Clairton Plant. U.S. Steel continued production for months—even though it had no way to clean the sulfur out of its coke gas emissions.

Air pollution spiked in the Mon Valley and U.S. Steel’s neighbors suffered noxious odors, burning eyes, nose, and throat, difficulty breathing, headaches, and nausea.

Now the neighbors are fighting back in a class action lawsuit called Hernandez v. U.S. Steel.
